Whether it’s the perfect outfit, a handy accessory or an object of desire, if an item is “kawai” it will stand out. Last week, we spent three jam packed days at Playtime Paris on the search for all things “kawai”. What is kawai you might ask? かわいい or [kaw͍aiꜜi] refers to being lovable, cute and adorable in Japanese. With so many kids fashion designers present at Playtime, there was so much to see and so little time. Here are our special finds!
Rara Chan : THE traditional Japanese backpack (a.k.a. randoseru) has a life span of 6 years, is water repellent , extremely rugged, ergonomic, and entirely handmade! With so much attention to detail in one bag (300 manufacturing steps instead of 40 for a conventional industrial backpack) who wouldn’t appreciate having their very own Rara Chan?
Rock & Pebble : Wooden stackable rock toys with cute little faces. A modern wooden doll house in the shape of an apple, pear or elephant! We love the minimalist furniture and irresistible design!
Flatout Frankie : All objects are made of recyclable cardboard and can easily be folded to make simple, and cool objects that inspire the imagination. We love the happy face boxes and ice cream cones.
Kid Them All : A variety of new prints on fun pajamas including designs by the artist Lily Scratchy. There is also a new line of bedding including a duvet cover and pillow that will definitely be a hit for boys.
Pcm Design : A Spanish Design Agency that creates sober, minimalist animals that can be used in the bath, in a scenery. They are fun to squeeze and touch and they agence de design espagnole, qui propose des doudous évidemment très design et minimaliste, utilisables comme jouets de bain. Vous pouvez craquer au choix pour un animal de la jungle family ou de la polar family.
Nailmatic Kids : Surprise cones and a fun collaboration with Rilakkuma, the cute Japanese Teddy Bear!
Carlota Barnabe : We fell in love with this brand last season. Good news! The brand has grown and now goes up to size 10 years old. Vintage style cuts for 8 different models that come in 3 very special colors (amazon green, black onyx, & pink cinnabar).
Oeuf NYC : Back to the 70’s with bell bottoms, rainbow flags, peace & love symbols, daisies, and even a daring unicorn hoodie! Oeuf makes us laugh and smile with their new collection including various must-have goodies such as the lips/mouth cushion with a gold tooth or braces!
March : This Lithuanian Design Team creates special objects including chalk friendly shirts, reflective badges, and beautiful lollipops. Each design is candy for the eyes!
Raspberry Plum – Cats, Dogs and Mice are honored in the new Spring/Summer Collection. We love the adorable winking eye shirts and dresses (dress in top photo!) as well as the sporty tennis, cheerleading and bowling influences.
Milk on the Rocks : This brand reaches the ultimate in cuteness with interactive zippered pockets on shirts, 3D flowers and yummy chocolate chip cookie toys. MOTR will also launch a collection of dolls in collaboration with Bobby Dazzler and a shoe collection with Twins for Peace. Not to be missed!
Koolabah – We fell in love with these adorable prints that remind us of storybook pictures. Unisex clothes where kids can be kids for all fairytale fans.
Macarons Fashion – This original and easy to wear print is oh so adorable. We also are fans of the ample cut of this dress that all little girls will love.
